We are reaching out to share some important updates about the work we have been engaged in regarding opportunities for both students and parents.
Student Support Opportunity:
We were able to secure Roxanne Francis, registered social worker, to co-facilitate with Board social workers Richard Langhorne and Hoshana Calliste to support four sessions of: Acknowledging Voices: An opportunity to share and learn about Black youth mental health and support. These opportunities are specifically for Black self-identified students to come together in a virtual space with the support of Black self-identified mental health professionals who have expertise in understanding the impact of anti-Black racism on mental health from a youth friendly perspective, including creating space for youth voice. The opportunity is titled: A link to register for one of the four dates that have been scheduled this week is included. The first session is kicking off this evening. Please circulate widely to help share this opportunity with YRDSB students in our community.
Parent Opportunity:
The second update we are excited to share is that Bonnie Skinner, registered Psychotherapist, has been confirmed to help lead two speaking events for parents, titled, Sailing the Stormy Seas: Helping Black Youth Navigate Life’s Challenges. A link to registration is included. As confirmed in our last joint meeting, this opportunity is open to any parent who would like to join. We ask for your assistance with circulating the event widely.
